Zimbabwe's Forgotten Children

One of the very best ways of raising money to support our Education Programme is to hold your own screening of the film, either at home, or at your workplace, school or church.  Just buy a DVD from our website and then follow this simple step by step guide (which you can download and print off here)

STEP 1 - TYPE OF SCREENING

Home - This is the ideal setting as you can invite a few close friends perhaps combine it with supper.  Or possibly a high tea with cucumber sandwiches?

Office - lunchtime picnic baskets to share in the boardroom...  perhaps arrange for the person who brings the most delicious dessert to have the afternoon off?
chool – imagine not being able to read your favourite Harry Potter book because your parents could not afford to send you to school?  You can have fun whilst giving  someone your age the chance to enjoy reading, art, movies, sport – just like you do!
Place of worship – would your religious leader be interested in doing a screening after a popular service or prayer group?

STEP 2 - AUDIENCE & INVITE LIST

Who is on your invite list and what is your expected audience numbers? Invite reliable people who you know have an interest in helping children like the ones featured in the film.
And if you have a few extra places maybe even get a couple in that you can “convert”!  If they have lots of dosh – all the better!!
Think of places you can publicise your event - school newsletter, church notice board, office intranet website.  Your teacher may agree to let you have a casual clothes day too – whoop whoop!!    This will help you pick an appropriate venue…

Your front room/garden, workplace canteen, school hall/student union, place of worship, bar/club/café.

If you have a good relationship with a local independent cinema, then why not try them?

The best and easiest venue is your own home, but if you are feeling ambitious then by all means think big.

Venues like theatres and cinemas may well let you hold a charitable screening for free if it is off-peak, on a weekday afternoon, for example.

Find out if they have a projector and a screen or whether they’d need to hire one in etc

One thing to note is that you should always discuss with the venue any costs from their end.

STEP 4 - CATERINGpopcorn.jpgWorm.jpg

Add to the fun by providing themed catering – African delicacies (mopane worm anyone?) or simple film food like popcorn!

STEP 5 - DATE AND TIME

This will depend on your screening audience’s age and availability.Maybe you could have discussion points afterwards?

Our dvd also includes a presentation with some extra information for you to use as an introduction before the screening.  And we are always here to assist if you need our help!
