Zimbabwe's Forgotten Children

Nine-year old Esther is HIV positive and lives with her mother and baby sister Tino in a squatter camp on the outskirts of Harare. When her father died of HIV/AIDS, her elder sister, Yvette, began living on the streets.  Esther’s day revolved around caring for her sick mother who was dying from HIV/AIDS, and her baby sister.  During the course of filming her mother died and her uncle came from his rural village to take over his sister’s patch, but he does little to help the children.

Esther now spends her days looking after little Tino, often locked out of their tent. She survives on one meal a day and hasn’t been to school for over a year. She misses her sister but understands why she can’t come back. According to both Esther and Yvette their uncle chased Yvette away.

Esther deams of going back to school and for the family to be reunited so she can live once more with Tino and Yvette.
